As I am one of the assistant editors at Major Geeks, I thought I would create a thread here with the most popular program updates for ease of access.

I only support software with no PUPs as I am against PUPs no matter how great a program might be.

Sometimes I may post updates to paid programs only if I think they are really worth it.

Note: If an app has a setup file or a portable (.ZIP) version, I usually link to the portable version as it's easier to manage and doesn't need to be...

Keepass Recovery With Laptop Not Working, Backups Not Found What Can I do?

I use keepass to store all my passwords. I had saved a copy of it in my usb stick as backup. I'm not 100 percent sure if i did this to my external hard drive. But im close to 100 percent i did with my usb stick.


My laptop shut down on me and no longer works. I went to computer repair shop and they said my laptop went bad. But the hard drive should be fine and they tell me its fine. I asked them if they could copy files from my hard drive which is an ssd in the laptop that doesn't work...

The Official MSI GT62VR Owners and Discussions Lounge

After some digging it looks like the MSI GT 15.6" in flavor is making a return in the form of the GT62 VR edition. This appears to be an actual GT62 and not that unbranded barebones with a desktop CPU that we've seen in the past. An official GT62! So far I've seen 2 SKUs with the 6700HQ and 6820HK but GPU and screen is unlisted.

Other laptops inbound include the GT72VR, GS73/63VR, GS43VR, and GE72/62VR.

Hopefully we know more soon, but good news for anyone that wants the 15.6" GT...

Posting to share with you a project I've been working on: Slabtop. Slabtop is a project which aims to take standard desktop class hardware and fit it into a portable battery operated enclosure with all of the regular input devices of a laptop.

This early concept was built based on the feedback from a questionnaire posted on /r/pcmasterrace in January asking what people would want...

Ok as promised and a day late since UPS didnt deliver until after 7 pm and I was at work all night here are some unboxing pictures...the system is burning the backup discs now so figured it was a good time to try to get this started.

BTW....I love this laptop as soon as I unboxed it....the chocolate brown with the swirl pattern is AWESOME....the keyboard is great as well...not backlit but I never had one that was so not missing anything there. Screen out of the box looks good...will have...

Hi guys,
I have an Asus G53JW notebook having a mechanical Seagate 500GB harddrive, i have no SSD, no RAID configuration, using it as single drive. Despite this, thanks to Asus, the system is pre-configured as running on AHCI mode and it seem Intel RST driver is installed as can be seen from device manager. My OS is Windows 7 SP1 x64.

What i'm noticing is that either the main GUI utility or any control panel applet of Intel RST both are missing on my computer and i cannot see any...

CF-18 FAQ

I have talked to Alex about a new updated CF-18 thread a while back but just never got it done. We discussed this replacing the partial FAQ we currently have for the CF-18. I still don’t have all the pictures done like on the factory GPS install but I need to quit stalling and get it posted up, then just add pictures up later. This will be a work in progress and I will add the info to the first post to keep it clean. Besides I have a lot of time on my hands...

Very slow 1070m issues

Hello and greetings to one and all.
I have now had my new 1070m Laptop for about a month now, and am having some very curious issues with it that I would like to ask people here about to gauge their insight and knowledge to seek a solution.
When I first got the 1070m, I was able to play Doom, Borderland, Bioshock, etc at very high FPS rates- about 125 for Doom and 62 for Borderland, all at Ultra Maxed out settings, which is what I should be getting.

780m died :(

Dead 780m :(

So I was playing mechwarrior online and my laptop just up and shut down :( .... adaptor light went out and dead. If I reconnect the adaptor to the wall the light comes on but as soon as I plug it into the laptop the light dies. Off the bat I knew this was def not good but I had no warning signs anything was wrong. My first thought was MB failure but I don't smell anything at all, not that I guess I would in every scenario. I pulled the 780m out and tried to plug the adaptor...

780m died :(

MSI Current Status 8/22/2016:
Right now as I open this thread, MSI support is saying we should all buy new laptops instead of asking for upgrades. :rolleyes:o_O

Of course we all know that MSI promised 2 generations of GPU upgrades for the MXM laptop models GT72/GT72S and GT80/GT80S.

We need to stick together and compare notes on the upcoming MSI Pascal GPU upgrades for our laptops.

questions on asus g501vw 4-cell 60 whrs and 6-cell 96 whrs

Hi, so as far as i know the cheaper 4-cell 60 whrs g501vw version comes with FHD (1920x1080) and the 6-cell 96 whrs comes with UHD/4k screen.

So, my question is:
1. 4-cell 60 whrs vs 6-cell 96 whrs, ignoring the FHD and UHD/4K screen, which battery can last longer on a single charge?
2. If the 4-cell 60 whrs 1920x1080 resolution vs 6-cell 96 whrs 4K resolution, when idle and under load, will the battery life remain the same for both FHD and UHD/4K version IDLE about 5 hours and under...
