This thread is for all GT72/GT72S and GT80/GT80S owners.

MSI Current Status 8/22/2016:
Right now as I open this thread, MSI support is saying we should all buy new laptops instead of asking for upgrades. :rolleyes:o_O

Of course we all know that MSI promised 2 generations of GPU upgrades for the MXM laptop models GT72/GT72S and GT80/GT80S.

We need to stick together and compare notes on the upcoming MSI Pascal GPU upgrades for our laptops.

Please post your communications with MSI, positive...

My Xotic PC order. Not as ordered.

I just received my order of a Sager np8173-s from Xotic PC. As far as receiving the package everything went as expected.

My problems started when I turned the computer on. I ordered with 6820HK CPU, and bios says it has 6700HQ. I also ordered with 500GB Samsung evo, bios says I have the 256GB SanDisk, I'm assuming its the X400. I also ordered with windows 10 pro, but there doesn't appear to be an OS installed, hence why I just have info from the bios so far.

I sent them a message, and...

Well guys...so now we know...

What are your thoughts and first initial impressions?
  • Do you foresee the new cooling design being able to cool the 1080 better than DTR's/Clevo's?

  • Are you going to be ditching your current AW to get the new one?

  • Will you be buying a different brand all together? Reason for the switch?

  • Are you willing to pay DTR prices for the new AW if it turns out that way?

  • Which screen option will you be opting for? FHD, QHD, or 4K?...

XPS 9550 + 4K panel screen flicker thread.

Let's get a list of who has the 4k panel & screen flicker at any brightness setting so I can present this to Dell the next time I call and they tell me they have never heard of this problem before (the default response)
If you have the FHD (1080) panel please don't reply as the initial fix seemed to be aimed at the FHD customers that in turn broke our 4k panels.
Dell may need to split the BIOS into 2 to fix specific panel types so we need to get a case going.

Please list the BIOS versions...

Hello all,

Nvidia just dropped the veil on their new Pascal mobile GPUs, and Asus showed their new GLx02 line.

From what I can tell, we can expect both GTX 1060 and GTX 1070, as well as 75Hz GSYNC on select models

So i havent seen a thread like this, and i have seen the "whats bothering you?" thread so i though we needed a counter part :) In this thread you can post good things that happened or if you acheived something cool and wanted to share it or just about any good thing that happened :D So im gonna start. I just finished my final exams and got decent to good grades :) and i have vacation now so i sleep till around 11 o clock every day, and i just realized how great the city i live in actually is...

Hi,
Have been reading a few threads over the last few months as have been wanting to upgrade my 5850m to something better.
I can't seem to find a clear cut answer on the most friendly upgrade.
Been looking at the 6990m 7970m but all seem to need new backplates or modding of some sort.

Question is, what is the best GPU upgrade that's pretty much plug and play (displayport functionality is a must) that i can use my backplate from the 5850 for?

I enjoy modding but just want something to chuck...

Finally!!! Alienware M18x R2 with Dual 980M SLI

Here are some basic steps to upgrade Alienware M18x R2 to Dual 980M SLI successfully. This configuration only tested Windows 8 or 8.1, it will not work with Windows 7.

1. Before replacing card, go to system Bios (keep your old graphics card inside system or not any graphics card installed). Then click on Boot tab, UEFI = Enabled, Legacy ROM = Disabled. F10 to save bios and Exit. After then turn off system.

2. install Single or Dual 980M....

I ordered two of them today. I was looking at the manual and it says the following:

Memory specifications
Feature Specification
Memory connector: Two SODIMM slots
Memory capacity: 4 GB and 8 GB
Memory type: DDR4 SDRAM
Speed: 2133 MHz
Minimum memory: 4 GB
Maximum memory: 8 GB

I'm fairly sure that the maximum memory is a typographical error because the Dell configurator allows you to purchase 16 GB (8GBx2).

New Sager NP8173-S arrived damaged out of the box. Can anyone attest to Sager's customer service?

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting on this forum.
I am wondering if I could get some insight into how my issue may be resolved. I recently ordered a NP8173-S through Sagernotebook.com and the package finally arrived last Friday via UPS. I recorded myself taking out and inspecting the laptop only to discover the back left exhaust vent to be smashed in and dented. The plastic grille pieces are snapped and the metal on the chassis surrounding the vent is warped and bowed outwards...

New Sager NP8173-S arrived damaged out of the box. Can anyone attest to Sager's customer service?
