Self Upgradability?

I remember (IIRC) that Alienware voided warrenty when upgrading components a few years ago - is that still the same? I am interested in a m17x and know i can get the same build specs for nearly £1,200 less by going with Clevo resellers

I am thinking of ignoring the Hard drive upgrade (adds £600 to the price ALONE) - which going to a 256GB SSD and 1TB hard drive combo and just getting them myself and self upgrading, same with the RAM
