Upgrading a Vanilla Alienware M15x

Hi Guys, I'm brand new to the forums and really impressed by the depth of knowledge here and its motivated me to take on an upgrade mission on this machine, rather then buy something completely new at a far greater price. I'm UK based.

I currently have a very vanilla Alienware M15x, circa 2010:
CPU i7 720QM
RAM 2x4GB Corsair DDR3 RAM (the only upgrade to the machine)
Geforce GTX 260M (1GB vRAM)
500GB HDD
150W PSU & 6-cell battery, both about 2 years old as originals had died
