Sometimes customers lose their product keys, and without them it can make reinstalling their operating system and/or Office suite impossible. Trying to obtain the original (or replacement) product key from Dell or Microsoft can turn into a a stressful situation with the customer being caught in the middle.
It would be a great idea to include the operating system and software product keys on their original purchase invoice, along with the machine service tag. A permanent electronic copy would be available to the customer by simply logging into their Dell account. A downloadable PDF copy of the invoice with the product key information would be readily available.
This would eliminate the need for an additional database to store the information and it would provide a low-cost self-service option for customers if they should find themselves in this situation.
